‘You have one life before your Camino, and a completely different one after it’ is a common Camino expression. What if ‘Walking the Camino de Santiago is a luminous pause between two lives that are yet one’?
To ‘pause life’ to walk the Camino can be an incredible gift that we give to ourselves. We may not experience the Camino we expected or wanted, however, the journey can still awaken us to new aspects of our life, the lives of others and to the world at large.
One meaning of luminous is ‘something that shines in the dark’. What became luminous for you on the Camino perhaps through:
Embracing silence and solitude
Being amongst your Camino family
An unexpected, one-off conversation
Facing up to a challenging experience
Sensing a moment of awe
Feeling real freedom to being ‘You’
Living simply outside the daily routine.
